New York on Film

Earlier this winter, Jen Steele followed me around New York. Super 8 in hand, she captured some of my favorite corners of the city from a diner booth in Manhattan to my regular window seat at Long Island Bar in Brooklyn.

Featured in each scene is an object from our collection that’s on heavy rotation at my home. A Ripple Cup over breakfast, Le Verre spilling over with pilsner, and a martini in the Piano Cocktail Glass. With each piece, a mood is set and a second round is inevitable.

A timelessly accurate depiction of the relationship a girl has with New York City is the classic character of Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Rich in gumption and good taste, her iconic uniform of pearls and a tiara, croissant and coffee in hand, sets the bar for ritualistic joy any way you like it.

Small delights, window shopping, gallery crawling, late night dancing, early morning cabs home over the bridge. To me, this is the epitome of life in the city.

Objects featured in these short films, in order of appearance:

  • A classic Ripple Cup
  • The Piano Cocktail Glass
  • Le Verre, an everyday drinking glass
