There is something about the tension between strength and fragility that makes glass the perfect material to capture the essence of a flower. Glass is extremely vulnerable, but it is exactly that vulnerability that makes it so precious, and gives it its beauty and magic. But glass is not only fragile – it is also extremely strong. It survives the extreme heat of the furnace thanks to its adaptability, its ability to transform and melt into a liquid state, change shapes and be malleable to the hands of the glassworker. Flowers are not dissimilar, constantly adapting themselves to their surroundings, feeding off of the weather and the elements, in a constant state of flux. What is unique about flowers is their ephemerality, and this is what I tried to capture with these pieces. How to memorialize this movement, this brief life, and natural beauty, in something that could – if taken care of – last forever.
